Violin Making
Mark studied violin making and repair at the Newark School of Violin Making in England and received a Diploma with Merit in 2004. For a further four years he worked as a repairer and restorer of stringed instruments in Oxford.
In 2008 he returned to Ireland and established The Keenan Violin Studio at Belmont Mill on the invitation of the mill’s owners Tom Dolan and Sandy Lloyd.
Mark’s aim from the beginning has been to provide as wide a range of high quality products and services to players of the instruments of the violin family.
Mark makes violins of quality for musicians who are looking for something special.
His violins possess a beautifully rich tone while still producing a clear and projecting sound. They are crafted to the highest standard which is evident in their symmetry of form and character of sculpture. Only the finest tone woods and materials are used and every violin is coated in a warmly coloured oil varnish which is burnished to smooth and lustrous finish.
Mark makes his violins to the patterns of the historical masters Antonio Stradivari and Guiseppe Guarneri Del Gesu.
Each commission is treated uniquely, giving the client the opportunity to express their hopes and expectations for the instrument from both the aesthetic as well as the tonal perspective.
